Subject: Taking care of Veterans

If you are the primary caregiver for  a Veteran, Care for someone 65 years of age or older, or have assisted with one activity of daily living for the last six months, then there is a new program that you might want to look into. The Atlanta VAMC is offering the "Caring for You, Caring for Me" program. This program is sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and was developed by the Rosalynn Carter Institute in Americus Ga. As part of a research project, this program will provide family caregivers the opportunity;

* To gain information on various topics related to caregiving

* To learn methods of coping with stresses and strains of being a caregiver

* To learn about available resources

* To discover ways of working together to reduce some of the frustration and barriers faced in caregiving roles

* To share common concerns, and

* To recognize that caregivers are not slone and others share similar feelings and concerns.

Participants will attend a two hour session each week for five consecutive weeks. Topics are outlined as;

Topic 1: What it means to be a Caregiver

Topic 2: Building Cooperative Relationships

Topic 3: Accessing and Developing Resources

Topic 4: Preventing and Solving Problems

Topic 5: Taking care of Yourself

Participants in the entire session will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the program.
