Subject: Supporting our veterans and military retirees

At least we know this Congressman is behind us !!!!

- WWII vet receives Bronze Star
- Memorial Coverage Appreciated
- Opening Ceremonies
- Military Retirees Eye Major Benefit Reforms

I am a strong supporter of our nation’s military, and I firmly believe that support should continue after people leave the military. Many brave men and women are protecting our nation. They deserve our support. Once they leave the service -- either as veterans or retirees -- our nation owes them a debt of gratitude, and I am working to help pay that debt. This support for our military and veterans has earned me the endorsement of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States during the 2004 campaign.
The current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq are creating many new veterans, and I continue to work to ensure they receive the best treatment possible. In 2003, I introduced H.R. 3474, a bill to make sure that retired members of our military get the health care coverage they deserve for serving our nation. My colleagues in Congress recognize how important this is: 256 Members of the House are now co-sponsors.

A strong bipartisan group of Senators also supports the legislation. I will continue to work on this legislation in the next Congress, as we must keep our promise to America’s military retirees. In addition to the legislation I wrote, I have joined my colleagues in support of our armed service and veterans in cosponsoring over 30 different pieces of legislation.

These bills include measures to increase educational opportunities for veterans, improve health care for veterans and their families, and to make sure that everyone serving in the Armed Services has the best body armor possible. As your Congressman, I will continue to fight for what’s right for the members of our Armed Services and our many veterans.
