SECNAV Releases 2005 Holiday Message

Release Date: 12/15/2005 12:00:00 PM

Special message from Secretary of the Navy Gordon EnglandWASHINGTON (NNS) -- To the men and women of the Navy and Marine Corps team, warm wishes for a joyous holiday season and deep gratitude for your dedicated service. You continue the honored tradition of past generations of American Sailors and Marines by protecting and defending liberty and freedom. Your nation, your fellow Americans, and our friends and allies around the world respect and value your commitment.

Every American is blessed to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. American military strength and compassion have been demonstrated this year in Iraq and Afghanistan and in humanitarian missions where countless lives were saved and suffering alleviated by your professionalism and skill.

Wherever you gather with family and friends this holiday season, stay safe and keep your families and shipmates safe. For those of you who are far from home and who go in harm’s way, you are always in our thoughts and prayers. Know that your mission is important and your sacrifice is appreciated.

It has been my great honor and privilege to be your Secretary for now my 5th Christmas. May God bless you and your families during this holiday season and in the year to come. May God continue to bless the United States of America.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
