Good Morning all,

This is the same one we were using before. TPC is "The Phone Company". The iddd is International Distance Direct Dialing.

http://tinyurl.com/dyn24  Chapter 29 Fulfillment Free Services The leading free FAX gateway service, TPC.INT, was experimental and has been discontinued. The results of the experiment are archived and can be obtained by sending e-mail to tcpfaq@info.tpc.int.

The TPC approach allowed a user to send a message to, for instance, remote-printer.  Arlo_Cats/Room_123@12025551234.iddd.tpc.int.  The TPC.INT service pulled out the phone number (in this case 1-202-555-1234) and then looked up the area code and exchange in a coverage list. If it found a cooperating cell serving that area, it sent the message to that cell. Once at the cell, the remote-printer service used the message information to build a cover sheet-in this case, the following:

Arlo_Cats Room 123

The TPC software is still available; many universities and a few companies offer the service for their local areas. A recent copy of the fax-faq file cited above lists free services in the following locations:

Have a good one, Jean

Morrie:

I used " http://www.tpc.int/sendfax.html  " and sent a FAX to myself. I got this web page response when I sent the FAX.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fax Sent by Mail Your message has been sent by email to remote-printer.Floyd_Sears@12283969830.iddd.tpc.int

When the fax is sent, a confirmation message will be sent to fsears@bellsouth.net

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you can see I'm suppose to get an e-mail conformation when the FAX is sent, and I should also get a FAX. I sent (e-mailed) the FAX about 15 minutes ago and nothing has happened yet. I'll let you know if I get anything.

WASHINGTON REPORT

NAUS President MG William Matz testifies on TRICARE increases

On Wednesday, NAUS President MG William Matz testified before the House Subcommittee on Personnel, chaired by Rep. John McHugh (R-NY), regarding the proposed Pentagon plan to increase TRICARE premium fees and co-pays to under-age-65 retirees and their families.

Matz presented the testimony on behalf of The National Military Veterans Alliance, an association of 29 military organizations and veterans groups representing nearly 3.5 million servicemembers, including active duty, National Guard, Reserve, military retirees, veterans, families and survivors.

During testimony, Matz told the panel that the proposed TRICARE increases were excessive by any measure. He said, "Approving the Pentagon plan would demonstrate that the promised earned benefits of a military career are no longer a national priority...it's the wrong signal, especially in a time of war, and would adversely affect retention and recruitment."

Matz asked the subcommittee to help sort out national spending priorities telling the panel that members of The Alliance questioned the priority of asking military retirees to pay more for the care they earned in a lifetime of armed service and defense of freedom, while spending, for instance, $1 billion on a 4-year program to pay the medical bills for illegal aliens. He asked, "Does illegal alien health care trump care for military retirees?"

Matz also expressed concern that current law grants DoD authority to put their plan in force without congressional action. To block this possible move, he called on Congress to intervene and enact HR 4949, the Military Retirees' Health Care Protection Act, to give Congress time to block any fee increase unless specifically approved by Congress.

NAUS Note: To see the entire testimony CLICK HERE. We urge you to continue to flood your elected officials with email, regular mail, faxes, phone calls and even in person. CLICK HERE to go to our website and send a message. We believe that we can win this issue and force DOD to back down. But your help is needed and we very much appreciate your assistance!!!!

House Budget Committee Rejects Chet Edwards Amendment

On Wednesday, the House Budget Committee rejected an amendment to the House Budget Resolution by Rep. Chet Edwards (D-TX) to bump up the amount for the DOD healthcare budget by $735 million. Edwards offered the amendment to block the Administration's plan to sharply increase annual fees and prescription drug copays for retirees using the Department of Defense military healthcare system. The amendment failed on a straight party line vote 15-22.

Budget Committee Chairman Jim Nussle (R-IA) tried to explain away the vote saying that the Committee's job was to set the overall federal spending cap, not to set specific policy. Decisions on policy, he said, are the work of authorizing and appropriations committees.

Moments later, however, the Chairman's logic left the room when the Committee approved an amendment offered by Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-NH) to block the Administration's proposal to increase enrollment fees and prescription drug copays for veterans using the Department of Veterans' Affairs health care system. The Bradley amendment for a $795 million increase in veterans funding was approved on a bipartisan vote of the Committee.

NAUS appreciates the vote to approve the Bradley amendment. However, we condemn the vote to reject the Edwards amendment. We agree with Rep. Edwards who said, "...keeping our promise of quality, affordable health care for military retirees is the right thing to do and the smart thing to do...our nation has a moral obligation to keep our promises to those who have kept their promise to defend our nation."

NAUS Note: We recognize that the Budget vote is not the final word on this matter. However, we are astounded that an opportunity to signal that benefits earned by military retirees are a priority was rejected by the Budget Committee, yet they approved a bump for veterans funding. NAUS believes that Congress, at the earliest opportunity, should make it clear that the plan by DOD to increase TRICARE premium costs is not the proper way to proceed, especially during a time of war.

Longtime Veterans Advocate to Retire

This week Rep. Lane Evans (D-IL) announced his retirement from Congress. A Marine Corps veteran, Rep. Evans has always been one of the strongest advocates for veterans on the Hill. For twelve terms his tireless efforts have not always been successful, but he continued to champion legislation to better the lives of veterans and their families.

In 1998 Rep. Evans announced that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease but was told by doctors that he should be able to continue on in Congress for a long while. This week he announced that his disease had progressed to a point where he must concentrate more on his health than on his political career. After completing work in this Congress, he will not seek re-election

NAUS wishes Rep. Evans the best and wants him to know that veterans around the country deeply appreciate his strength of commitment and will miss his service in the United States House of Representatives. Semper Fi Mr. Evans!

NAUS on the Hill

This week NAUS President William Matz and Legislative Director Rick Jones attended the third annual US Senate Guard and Reserve Caucus breakfast, hosted by Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Sen. Marc Prior (D-AR). Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs Thomas F. Hall and military leaders of the Navy, Air Force, Army, Marine and Coast Guard reserve addressed the morning event and provided a brief assessment of funding, equipment, training and related needs of the force.

In conversation with NAUS and the other military groups in attendance, Senator Chambliss said he would aggressively pursue legislation to allow reserve retirement before age 60 and thought this would be the year for his efforts to succeed and begin reserve retired pay at an earlier age. NAUS strongly supports his effort.

President Matz and Director Jones also met with Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-HI), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. NAUS thanked Sen. Akaka for his long-time advocacy for the military and discussed with him the need to ensure adequate funding for veterans and military health care. The Senator was very receptive to NAUS view on these matters as they adversely impact many of his constituents.

Director Jones also met with Rep. Thelma Drake (R-VA) and Rep. Robin Hayes (R-NC), both members of the House Armed Services Committee Subcommittee on Personnel. Reps. Drake and Hayes indicated they had received thousands of messages from NAUS members and other retirees about the Pentagon plan to increase retiree-costs for earned benefits. Hayes said, "We're going to do everything we can and a little more to get the best results." Drake, who chaired a large portion of the hearing, told Jones that she opposed the DoD plan and had received more than 4,000 messages opposed to it, too.

Republicans in the Senate think the illegal aliens who hung our flag upside down, under the Mexican flag, should be allowed to become Americans? They should have been checked for green cards and deported on the spot if they weren't Americans.

Excerpt Of The Day: A Brilliant Proposal To Deal With Car Theft.

"His Majesty thinks that it´s about time that Congress adopts a responsible, reasonable and realistic approach to the scourge of vehicular theft or, as we prefer to call it, undocumented possession of an automobile.

For too long, we´ve ignored this problem, creating criminals out of hard-working car thieves undocumented drivers and with very little to show for it. Indeed, for the last decade or so, about 1,200,000 undocumented drivers have been reported every year with absolutely no signs of the number going down.

...Obviously, there is no realistic way that our prison systems can accommodate 12,000,000 undocumented drivers, as some extremist pedestrophobes have suggested. And, of course, that would mean that we´d have to catch them all in the first place, which I think that it´s pretty obvious that we can´t.

Besides, as a nation of highly mobile people living in a vast area where transportation is vitally important, it goes completely against the values upon which we founded this society of ours to adopt such draconian measures against undocumented drivers who, let´s face it, just want a piece of the American Dream, feeling the wind in their hair as they race down the Interstate.

...So I propose that Congress, sooner rather than later, gather to decriminalize undocumented possession of an automobile. Under my program, undocumented drivers will be allowed to drive unattended automobiles that nobody wants to drive at the moment anyway and, after a three year period of driving responsibly, will be given the title to the vehicle in question.

Irresponsible, extremist, hateful and plainly un-American critics have suggested that this is unfair to those who´ve worked hard to gain documented possession of an automobile or even that such a program will discourage purchase of cars and encourage undocumented driving.

To them I say... Well, I´m going to say something, as soon as I can come up with a brilliant retort. Rest assured, however, that it´ll include the words "racist", "elitist", "snob", " pedestrophobe", "totalitarian" and "doo-doo head", not necessarily in that order.

...With this visionary program, I foresee that car theft will become a thing of the past in short order."

I spoke to you on the phone last night and am following up with this email. I was in the 809th Engineer Battalion (Army) stationed in Thailand from 1969-1971. My main station was Camp Ruam Chit Chai. However I was all over the country building roads. The one place I am sure I was exposed to Agent Orange is Nakhon Phanom (NKP).

I actually saw the chemical sprayed and saw the vegetation die. We were assured there was no danger and it made our work easier. Although we saw the vegetation die all over the jungle while building roads we never questioned the Army. My main camp was 50km from NKP. Any help you can forward me in my quest to prove Agent Orange exposure would be appreciated.
