Subject: [MRGRG-MS] Last minute changes to the FAX A REPRESENTATIVE web page
Folks:
Some of us have been trying to figure out why the e-mail a message to a FAX
machine is not working. This is a system that has worked for us in the past.
Well Jean D. Beard found out that this service that we were going to use in the
"FAX A REPRESENTATIVE" project has been discontinued. This is what Jean found.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Free Services
The leading free FAX gateway service, TPC.INT, was experimental and has been
discontinued. The results of the experiment are archived and can be obtained by
sending e-mail to tcpfaq@info.tpc.int. The TPC approach allowed a user to send a
message to, for instance, remote-printer.Arlo_Cats/Room_123@12025551234.iddd.tpc.int.
The TPC.INT service pulled out the phone number (in this case 1-202-555-1234)
and then looked up the area code and exchange in a coverage list. If it found a
cooperating cell serving that area, it sent the message to that cell. Once at
the cell, the remote-printer service used the message information to build a
cover sheet-in this case, the following:
Arlo_Cats Room 123
The TPC software is still available; many universities and a few companies offer
the service for their local areas. A recent copy of the fax-faq file cited above
lists free services in the following locations:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Therefore, we (Jean Beard an I) had to make some last minute changes so that the
people that do not have FAX machines can participate in this project. Instead of
giving you an e-mail FAX address we have given you a WEB FORM address. Some of
the WEB FORMS require a ZIP code to make it work. We have included a ZIP code
that will work following each WEB FORM URL. We even found that a couple of REPs
still use an e-mail address.
Take another look at the http://mrgrg-ms.org/fax-it.html web page and go to work
tomorrow.
After you send your messages please goto http://mrgrg-ms.org/educate-the-congress.html
and update the "MRGRG Educate the Congress Tracking System". Otherwise we will
be working in the dark. We need to see what we can do working as a team with
last minute changes to a plan. We need to let the Congress know that we are
still out here and that we continue to fight the fight.
Many thanks to Jean D. Beard for all the help she provided this afternoon.
Without her help I could not have gathered all the data we needed to make the
changes and get the updated web page on line.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO YOUR E-MAIL LIST(s).
