I have a lot of people
that ask me how they can tell how many messages we are sending to the
Congress on a daily basis. The fact is I can not tell you how many messages
we send daily unless people goto the
http://mrgrg-ms.org/educate-the-congress.html Tracking System and record
what they have done for the day.
I have a lot of people tell me that they send messages, but they do not mess
with the Tracking System. Well, if folks will not tell me via the
http://mrgrg-ms.org/educate-the-congress.html web form what they are
doing then I can not tell you what they are doing. I can not get data that
people are hiding.
This is what must be done in order for you to see what is happening on a
daily basis.
- I must take a sample of the numbers displayed at http://mrgrg-ms.org/cgi-bin/educate-the-congress.cgi. I have a special program that extracts the numbers, but leaves the names.
- Merge these numbers with the names in a Microsoft Excel spread sheet. The spread sheet is configured such that it does all the calculations.
- Create the web page at http://mrgrg-ms.org/bb-daily-totals.html using the numbers from the spread sheet.
- And then upload the web page to the Internet.
As you can see the
process is not easy and requires a lot of steps. Since the process is not
easy I take a sample every 2 to 3 days instead of everyday. This should
suffice since we are actually looking for signs of progress instead of just
working in the dark.
If you are interested in what has happened from 2/24/2006 to 2/27/2006 then

If you look at the last column on the right you will see that "163" messages
were sent or to put it another way... that is the numbers that have been
recorded into the Tracking System. If you scroll down in that column you can
see who got the messages.
The web page at
http://mrgrg-ms.org/bb-daily-totals.html contains a wealth of
information, but it doesn't just jump out at you. You must look it over.
Starting at the left column, the SUMMARY web page tells you how many BB
letters were sent (57,023) before we started the FAX A REP project. The next
column tells you that 5,782 FAXes/Web Forms have been sent since 1/17/2006.
Under HR 602 we can see who has cosponsored HR 602 and whither they are
Democrats or Republicans. Under S 407 we can see who has cosponsored S 407.
Then as we move on to the right you will see 3 samples... 2/22/2006,
2/24/2006, and 2/27/2006. Note that the big number 772 was from 2/14/2006 to
2/22/2006 (I really got lazy during that time period).
Folks, it takes a long time to eat an elephant one bite at a time. But, we
can get it done if we are patient.
