Sharkhunters HOT MAIL
I really hate to report this, but it appears that our earlier prediction is moving toward becoming actual fact. We reported on the various happenings taking place with U-534, such as:
The property on which she sat in England was sold to make way for residential flats;
We predicted that she would have to be moved, but that she could not because she is in concrete bunkers;
We tried to make arrangements with the owner to buy U-534 and move her to another location, but the guy we were dealing with was not dealing in what we considered good faith;
We predicted that this situation would linger on and on until the boat would eventually be broken up on site.
Well, there is new news to report.......................

We have an unconfirmed report by a S.E.I.G. Agent in the area that the owner of the property has put a lien (a legal attachment) on the boat for unpaid bills. This is a terrible turn of the events. We are not that familiar with British law, but we suspect in this type of proceedings, it is pretty much the same as American law................that is, if the unpaid bills (and probably substantial interests and costs) are not repaid to the owner of the property, then he will become the owner of U-534 by default. If this happens, and it is our prediction that it WILL happen, then the owner of the property becomes the owner of U-534. If this happens, he will be more interested to have the parking lot free to use for the people who live in these flats and far less interested in having a World War II German U-Boat rusting away in the parking lot. It appears to be a simple matter of economics.
Again, we make the sad prediction that U-534 will be cut up in this very parking lot and removed to the scrapyard piece by piece to be melted down. We sincerely hope that we are incorrect in this prediction. We really hope that an "angel" as we call them in the US, will come forward with a huge checkbook who will buy the boat and move her to a new and better location. We HOPE this will happen, but we really do not think that it will. We predict that U-534 will cease to exist - probably in 2007 or 2008 at the latest.
Damn shame! A tragic loss to history and if this does come to pass, the guy who owns the boat and who has failed to get her moved to a safe place where people interested in true and honest history can visit the boat, then shame on him!
Naturally, we will keep you informed as we learn new information - and thanks to our Agent in the UK for this update.
