John 'BUD' STRAND, 84 MANSFIELD, Ohio -

Bayliss John "Bud" Strand, 84, of Mansfield died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, in Med-Central Mansfield. Born July 14, 1924, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Addison and Rose Victoria (Larson) Strand. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1964, having served during World War II in the Mediterranean on various submarines including the Diodon.

He was also a machine tool representative for Sun-Strand-Electrolux, retiring in 1989, which gave him the opportunity to travel the world. He loved the Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Surviving are wife, Marta (Buxton) Keller-Strand; sons, Denis (Mary) Strand of Rockford, Ill., and Jeffrey Strand of Guam; daughters, Barbara Rhoads of St. Charles, Ill., JoAnne (Ian) Carter of Beaverton, Ore., Jeri (Steve) Bontjes of Rockford and Lori (Greg) Leftwich of Deltona, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren; brother, Gerald (Marian) Strand of Rockford; sister-in-law, Bonnie Moser; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by parents; stepson, Robert Gayle Keller; and brother-in-law, Norman Moser. There will be no visitation or service at this time. Memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Missionary Society of the First Church of the Nazarene, Ashland, Ohio.
