Government Evicts Jesus Statue

By Todd Starnes, Fox News & Commentary

The U.S. Forest Service has ordered the Knights of Columbus to remove a nearly 60-year-old World War Two memorial from Montana’s Big Mountain because the memorial includes a statue of Jesus.

“It’s outrageous,” said Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-MT). “This is a bunch of attorneys getting skittish, worrying about something that doesn’t need to be worried about.”

The statue was erected in 1953 by a local chapter of the Knights of Columbus. Every 10 years, the group has to renew a special permit to maintain the small plot of land in the Flathead National Forest.

Our country is falling apart, economically, ethically, morally, etc. and you guys are worried about a statue?  Really?
Move the statue on to private, or church owned land and start using your energy for important stuff.

The First Amendment  cites that the government shall not ESTABLISH any religion, it does not say that it cannot acknowledge the presence of a religion. The Knights of Columbus are a Roman Catholic group and as such believe in Jesus, so putting up a WW2 memorial in honor of the memory of those who served and died it is not an attempt to establish the RC church but rather just common sense that they would commit their memory to their God. The government did not violate the First Amendment by allowing this monument on government land but merely allowing the Knights of Columbus to honor the military according to their religious expression.with this memorial.

  • Therefore since the government must be religion neutral, not play favorites, it must be willing to equally avknowledge all religions. Are you ready to support muslim displays on the public town square?

This memorial has never been a problem for the last 58 yrs. Now that we are witnessing the rise of the left wing anti-American radicals in the western part of the sate and the corruption of the U.S Forest service, it is now a problem for them, NOT for the residents of Montana.
This is part of the Prog agenda to remove God from the public square.  This same group launched a failed assault on another statue (Lady of the Rockies) out side of Butte a few yrs. ago.

Uh, they can't do that. That is treading upon our Constitutional rights under the 1st Amendment.
For those of you who don't know it, here it is...

Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Go vernment for a redress of grievances.

Please note, "Freedom OF Religion" and NOT "Freedom FROM Religion.
Regardless of what anyone's beliefs may be, no one has the right or power to deny expression of beliefs or religion in this country. The reason we came into existence in the first place was people fleeing per secution from practicing their beliefs. We are supposed to be a nation of tolerance, period.

If this issue were taken before the people to vote. The overwhelming majority would win in support of our 1st Amendment. For those of you who have a problem with this, go find another place to live and take your self - centered ty ran nical at titudes with you so the rest of us can live in peace.

  • The majority of Americans are fat, lazy, and ignorant.  The probably don't even know what the Constitution is, let alone what it says.

  • Actually, they can do that. The land use permit is about to expire and was not renewed by the U.S. Forest Service. The statue must be moved. That is not treading upon any Constitutional rights. The Knights of Columbus can move it to private property where it can stay as long as they like.

Please note that We the People have freedom of religion. Our secular Government has no such freedom. To protect our freedom OF religion we must keep our government free FROM religion.

If you want to live in a Christian theocracy then I suggest that it is you who should "go find another place to live and take your self - centered ty ran nical at titudes with you so the rest of us can live in peace."

  • WRONG, Buffalo-Fart-Breath.... the article clearly states that the permit was DENIED - NOT that it was 'not renewed - which puts the onus on the GOVERNMENT to DENY a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT.

  • Since the first religion clause of the first amendment says that government can't help religion exactly what right is being denied?
