March to your Senators' offices next week: No Amnesty, No Guestworker
When we won the tactical victory in the Senate last week, we told you we'd be coming to you often with more actions you can take to stop amnesty-guestworker in the Senate. Here's another opportunity to take action!
Plan a
visit to your Senators' offices next week
Our Capitol Hill team tells us that the most important thing you can do next
week in the fight against amnesty-guestworker proposals is to make a
personal visit to your Senators' offices to tell them what you think about
amnesty and guestworker proposals. As a
reminder, the Senate will still be on recess next week (April 17-21).
Unless some of you put a
full-court press on your Senators next week, they may believe that they have
to respond to the illegal alien supporters marching in the streets instead
of standing up for their constituents.
Many of you have never made a personal visit to your Senators' or
Representative's office. And there are many of you who won't be able to make
a visit next week because of other commitments. But, we need as many of you
who are able to get out there and pay your Senators a visit next week.
Some of you may find the thought of making a personal visit to a Senate
office somewhat intimidating. I know I was extremely nervous the first time
I sat with a staffer in my Representative's office. But, you will probably
find that it is really much easier than you might think. The chances are
very good that you will even have more information (or at least more
accurate information) than the staffer with whom you speak.
I'm sending this email to you now so that you have a few days to plan your
visit.
Plan your visit now
Here are some tips for planning your visit
We recommend calling in advance to see if you can schedule an appointment with a staffer. They may tell you they won't allow visits. If that is the case, you can certainly just show up at their office (but don't tell them you called in advance).
You can always go to www.congressgrades.org and print out a copy of your Senator's immigration Report Card to take to the office and refer to during your meeting.
Feedback from others who have made visits
"I visited
the Raleigh office of Senator Elizabeth Dole today. I left behind a letter
explaining my opposition to illegal immigration which the staffer said she
would give to Dole. I also gave her a copy of Senator Dole's D Grade report
card on immigration and the staffer looked a bit distressed to see that. I
told her as a Republican activist I also expected her to start voting the
right way on this issue or I would not be voting for her again."
----------- Mark in Raleigh, NC
"I'm just back from Sen. Ted Kennedy's office - they sent out the lowest
level clerk to talk with me. I dropped a few facts and the young girl's eyes
looked surprised, as though she had never heard of them. Thanks for the
info, Roy. I left a message for Sen. Kennedy - Tell him that I'm ashamed of
him! On my way in and out of the senator's office, I passed a very small
group with a loudspeaker decrying the criminal status of illegals. On my way
out of the senator's office, I handed out flyers that I had made up and
passed them out to their audience - people took them. I cut and pasted
Kennedy's voting record (grade F-) on immigration; cut and paste the concern
of 500,000 illegals - forming a "foreign occurpying army to invade many of
our cities." I didn't expect to run in to others on our mission - Kennedy is
so entrenched in representing illegals' interests that I think people in
Massachusetts think it useless to protest his office."

"I visited senator Shelby's office,(no one there) at the Huntsville
International Airport. I've tried numerous times to contact by phone,(no
answer). I will call his Washington office."
----------- Leroy in Huntsville,Alabama
"I went to the building where Senator Schumer and Senator Clinton are
located. In both instances, I was told that I could not visit their office
because I did not have an appointment"
-----------Barry in New York
Note from NumbersUSA: It is surprising that U.S. Senators would not have
anyone in their offices, but that does happen from time to time. If you find
that no one is at the office, you may want to leave a note on the door
letting them know you came by to express your opposition to amnesty-guestworker
programs.
"Roy, as a veteran we showed up at Mike Thompsons, CA., office and had a
talk. We emphasized that 'we didn't fight for open borders', as well as
expertise many items in the field of agriculture workers, and construction
industry. Many notes were taken down and she said she would pass on to the
Congressman."
-----------Norman in Fortuna, CA
Note from NumbersUSA: Great idea! Veterans, please mention your service
during your visit. Or wear something indicating your military affiliation.
That should get their attention!
"Today at lunchtime two co-workers (both state delegates) and I walked
across the street to the Utah county offices of Senators Hatch and Bennett.
We discussed our concerns with the current immigration debate."
-----------Darren in Utah
"Visited Sen. Hutchinson's office in Houston, Texas with one other person.
Had no problem getting in. The staffer that we talked to was very polite and
seemed to agree with us on illegal immigration needing to be stopped by
securing our borders and enforcing hiring practices. I gave him a copy of
her score card. That seemed to upset. Will go to Sen. Cornyn's office
tomorrow."
-----------Vada in Pasadena, TX
"I went to the 2 senators' local offices (Harrisburg), expecting to see
others who cared. Both offices had no other visitors. I told the office
assistants we don't show up in droves like the people on the other side of
the issue because we are too busy working to pay their bills. Please keep up
your great work!"
-----------Don in Wrightsville, PA
"I live in Las Vegas and was just at Senators Reid/Ensigns offices over the
noon hour. I was the only one at Sen
Reids office and one of only two in Sen Ensigns office. When I was leaving
another person was getting off the elevator to go to the
offices. Just thought you ought to know.
-----------Richard in Las Vegas, NV
Note from NumbersUSA: Don't be discouraged if you don't see other people
during your visit. We are getting a lot of feedback from people who are
making personal visits. Even if you don't see anyone else while you are at
the office, your visit is tremendously important.
"Thanks for reminding me about Sen. Allen's Town Hall meeting in Culpeper,
VA. I attended the meeting. When he said that we need to secure our borders,
I started clapping and most of the attendees joined me. I was able to ask
him your 3rd talking point. He seemed a little slippery, but agreed that
guest worker programs and amnesty should not apply to people whose first
action in the US is illegal. I was quoted in the Culpeper Star-Exponent of
March 22nd. Thanks for all that you do for the movement. I mailed you a
check this morning."
----------Paul in Culpeper, VA
