Shooting Stance
Since 10-13-07
One of the most frequently asked questions we get at the SIG SAUER Academy is “What defensive shooting stance is best?” Our answer is always the same: “The one that is moving!”
The first thing that should go through our mind when faced with a deadly threat is to move, and keep moving. We place very little emphasis on static foot placement and body position. Of course any shooting stance should have the attributes of balance, stability, and mobility but we focus the emphasis from the waist up, because in the gunfight your feet and legs should be moving at a high rate of speed. Keep the upper body in an aggressive forward posture to minimize muzzle flip, allow for quick follow up shots, and increased stability while moving. Avoid getting too caught up on what your feet and legs are doing, just move them, fast! This can buy you time and give you the upper hand needed to survive. Out of the three things we should probably be doing in the fight, shooting, moving, and communicating, moving certainly takes the lead. MOVE!
