“On occasion, the response to Katrina seemed more like a scene from the old
movie, ‘The Keystone Kops.’ However, after thoughtfully reading numerous
articles about the events, I am more inclined to compare it to the nursery rhyme
that goes: (‘Media, Democrats Exaggerate Warning of Levee Breaches,’ March 3)
‘For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.’”

“I don’t understand the take on thinking that American people are stupid and are
expected to believe everything the media vomits out. Everyone was warned about
the ‘possibility’ of the levees breaking in New Orleans. It was all a ‘what if’
scenario. They were all informed, including the people that lived there and the
government offices that ran that city.
Even I knew ahead of time, and, quite frankly, America is tired of hearing all the whining coming from down there. If they expected the president to be smart enough to do something, then that means the people of that city also were smart enough to have done something. What we should be looking at is why they are all pointing fingers at President Bush and the government instead of themselves?
Find the answer to that, and the problem with this
blame game they are playing will magically disappear. They will be forced to
admit that the people of that city were at fault. I don’t see anyone in
California pointing at the president and saying all the damages after a
catastrophe (earthquake, mud slide, forest fire, etc.) is his fault for not
doing something about it. I am guessing that opportunity is just a ‘southern
thing.’”
