FRIENDS,
LET'S STOP THE BUSH AMNESTY STEAMROLLER,
The Bush Amnesty Machine is in high gear now that those pesky Republican
House Members (most of whom oppose amnesties) have been thrown out of
the majority.
If you've been frustrated and itching for action since the elections,
below are several things you can do Tuesday that would really help
divert politicians from doing something quite disastrous on immigration
between now and Christmas.
No. 1:
Catch up
on your faxes. Send them all.
Our fax-writing team has been quite busy writing a lot of very
specialized faxes, most of them based on your answers to the NumbersUSA
Interests Survey.
See your faxes (unless you sent all of them over the weekend) at:
www.NumbersUSA.com/actionbuffet
We've delivered tens of thousands of faxes since Election Day, but we
need to keep up the barrage.
No. 2:
President
Bush apparently has handpicked one of the biggest open-borders promoters
in the Senate to be the new head of the Party -- start calling
Reuters (and our Senate sources) are reporting at this moment that U.S.
Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) will become general chairman of the national
Republican Party.
The Cuban-born Martinez, 60, often cites his immigrant background as a
reason why he must work to rapidly increase the flow of immigrants over
already historic highs. Formerly Bush's secretary of Housing and Urban
Development before being elected to the Senate in 2004, Martinez would
replace Ken Mehlman who plans to step down in January.
Sen. Martinez has a “D” immigration-reduction grade. He was the author
of a bill last spring that would have granted the Bush/McCain amnesty
and would have doubled the importation of foreign workers to more than 2
million a year.
You
can help blunt Martinez' open-borders efforts by protesting his
selection this week.
-
If you are a
Republican,
start phoning every Republican Party leader (from precinct to state
level) whom you know. Ask them to send the word up the ladder that
the rank and file want Martinez to promise not to use his position
to promote high-immigration and pro-illegal-alien positions at odds
with the majority of the Party. Express great concern about him
being given the reins of the Party.
-
Call the White House
and complain about this choice.
White House opinion line is (202) 456-1111. White House switchboard
is (202) 456-1414.
If we
generate enough controversy, it is possible Martinez may want to start
his tenure with an issue a little more popular with the American people,
and especially more popular with Republicans.
Call the White House regardless of your political party. If you are
other than Republican, stress your affiliation. Ironically, the White
House tends to discount calls from people who identify themselves as
conservative. So, it is best if you can identify yourself as a Democrat,
Independent, Moderate or Liberal to have influence at the White House
which regards immigration restriction as being a position of narrow
right-wing extremists.
But if you ARE a Republican or conservative, let 'em have it from that
basis, too.
No. 3:
In the
House of Representatives, the Republican conservative star who broke
with his GOP peers to promote a version of the Bush/McCain amnesty plan
may have the momentum to become the Republicans’ new House Leader.
Rep. Michael Pence (R-IN) last summer began to destroy his past good
reputation on immigration reduction by barnstorming across the country
for massive new flows of foreign workers and legalization for illegal
aliens.
We have put up action notes for those of you who have identified
yourselves with the Republican Party and who have a Republican
Representative in the House.
Whether or not you see a fax on your corkboard to send that would warn
your Member of Congress about Pence, you may want to make some phone
calls Tuesday.
If you have a Republican Representative call him/her. If you have
Republicans from your state, call them.
Get their phone numbers at:

And then click on the state on the map.
No. 4:
Have you
clicked your political party interest, yet? You will see many more
opportunities for action if you do.
As with all information provided to NumbersUSA, nothing about you will
ever be shared with anybody -- a promise that has been kept for all 9.5
years of our existence.
Please click on the choice below that most closely matches your
interest. Choose only one.
Democrat
Independent (swing voter)
Republican
About 58,000 of you have already done this and don't need to do it again
(it won't mess anything up, though, if you do click again).
But about 175,000 of you have never indicated a preference and miss out
on a lot of faxing and phoning opportunities.
No. 5:
Don't miss
our brand new page on local and state actions. This is where the
immigration problem is starting to improve.
Regardless of what the new Congress does, local and state governments
are sure to continue to try to find ways to cause illegal aliens to move
out of their jurisdictions.
See our brand new State and Local Immigration Action Center. These are
examples of steps local communities can take to minimize the impact of
the federal government's abdication of responsibility.
Go to
this local/state page.
Or go to the Home page and click on the yellow Take Local Action button
in the right column.
Thanks for pouring on the steam as Congress comes back to
town and as the White House thinks it can run roughshod over us on
immigration.
Daily citizen pressure from multiple points is the only way we can hold
off the amnesty this fall.
