Prayer Request

I understand the weather in Iraq is very difficult to bear right now. Our
troops need our prayers for strength, endurance and safety.

"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us. Bless them
and their families for the selfless acts they
perform for us in our time of need. I ask this
in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
Amen."

Please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our
troops around the world. Please - of all the gifts
you could give a US Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine deployed in harm's
way, prayer is the very best!!!

Communist MoveOn Launches Localized 'Cost of War' Campaign
The anti-war group MoveOn launched a campaign on Thursday to highlight the cost of the Iraq war for individual congressional districts. MoveOn hopes the plan will motivate the districts' residents to petition their representatives to vote for a troop withdrawal.
"We've already spent $456 BILLION on the war so far," the group said in an e-mail encouraging members to attend one of the 150 planned rallies around the country. "We've learned that when we remind voters of the costs of the Iraq war -- and all the important priorities that we can't afford because of it -- they're more likely to push Congress to end the war quickly."

Death by rules of engagement
This is what comes through, loud and ugly, from that mountaintop in Afghanistan, where four young Americans ultimately agreed it was better to be killed than to kill.
Now that Marcus Luttrell's book, "Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10," is a national bestseller, maybe Americans are ready to start a discussion about the core issue his story brings to light: the inverted morality and insanity of U.S. military rules of engagement...

One War, Two Perspectives
For some time it has seemed to me that the most important distinction determining how people view the conflict in Iraq is based upon different conceptions of what exactly the war is about.
One group looks at the war as being primarily about who rules Iraq. We went to war to evict Saddam Hussein, we stayed in Iraq primarily to replace Hussein with a friendly Democratic regime, and should stay or go largely based upon the probability of success and a judgment about how much we are or should be willing to pay in lives and treasure for that outcome.
The other group looks at the war in Iraq as not being primarily about who rules Iraq, but instead as the primary battlefront in the so-called "war on terror," or as I would prefer to call it the war on Islamic fascism. In this view, successfully replacing Saddam Hussein's tyrannical regime with a Western-leaning Democracy would be a huge blow to Islamic fascist movement, but ultimately winning the "war" in Iraq should rightly be seen as an important step in winning the larger conflict, not as an end in itself.

General Schwarzkopf "Fired" as Iraq War Commentator
Did you know that a major television network actually "fired" General Norman Schwarzkopf from his role as a military affairs commentator because his sense of duty and honor would not allow him to publicly second-guess current military commanders in Iraq?
Norman Schwarzkopf built his life on the principles of duty, honor and country -- the very values that are often the most denigrated on television and in Hollywood today. The fact that the television landscape in America is so bereft of similar role models presents an excellent opportunity for an entirely new type of program: a television series on character. Candid Conversations with Great Americans
is a new series specifically designed to explore the character of Americans whose lives are a positive example for ourselves and our children.

Taxpayer-financed Al-Hurra is becoming a platform for terrorists
Television Takeover

Fighting to create a secular democracy in Iraq, parliamentarian Mithal al-Alusi had come to rely on at least one TV network to help further freedom: U.S. taxpayer-financed Al-Hurra.
Now, however, he's concerned. The broadcaster he had seen as a stalwart ally has done an about-face. "Until now, we were so happy with Al-Hurra. It was taking stands against corruption, for human rights, and for peace. But not anymore."
Stories that he believes cry out for further investigation, such as recent arrests of those accused of supporting the terrorists in Iraq, are instead getting mere news-ticker mentions at the bottom of the screen. And Arab voices for freedom, which used to have a home on Al-Hurra, are noticeably absent. "They're driving out the liberals," he complains....

Terrorism Intelligence Report - Security Contractors in Iraq: Tactical -- and Practical -- Considerations
(New 10-14-07)

Week out of Focus: Washington, Iraq and Al Qaeda
Last week, the United States focused on the state of the war -- not just the one in Iraq, but the broader war against al Qaeda. A National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) was released asserting that al Qaeda has reconstituted itself in Pakistan and is either at or near its previous capabilities. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said his gut told him there is an increased risk of an al Qaeda attack in the United States this summer. President George W. Bush said at a press conference that the July 15 status report on Iraq would show that progress is being made in the war. When the report actually was released, it revealed a somewhat more pessimistic picture in some areas. Meanwhile, the Republican Party was showing signs of internal strain over the war, while the Democrats were unable to formulate their own collective position. So, it was a week in which everyone focused on the war, but not one that made a whole lot of sense -- at least on the surface....

Iraq - Jihadist Perspectives on a U.S. Withdrawal
...Al Qaeda leaders and the jihadist movement in general always have taken a long view of the war, and discussion of a U.S. withdrawal from either Iraq or Afghanistan has long been anticipated. In planning the 9/11 attacks, al Qaeda leaders clearly expected that the United States, once drawn into a war, eventually would weaken and lose heart. A study of al Qaeda's philosophy, mindset and planning -- conveyed through the words and actions of its leadership -- is a reminder of just how the current U.S. political debate fits into the jihadist timeline and strategy.
It also is an indicator that a U.S. withdrawal from Muslim lands is not al Qaeda's ultimate requirement for ending attacks against the United States or American interests abroad....

Who Cares? by Oliver North
The Marines and their families here at this sprawling base on the Carolina coast didn't have much to say about the president's State of the Union address. For many of them, his address the week before had been more important. It was then that they learned many more of them would be heading for Iraq -- and that the tour of duty for those already there would be extended.
But amazingly enough, not one of them, despite Democratic bombast and mainstream media remonstrations to the contrary, expressed any anger at the commander in chief for the added sacrifice.
Camp Lejeune is the home base for the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, the unit our Fox News "War Stories" team was embedded with in Iraq for much of last month. For them, Al Anbar Province, Iraq is the "front line." ...

Dear Mr. President, Send Even MORE Troops to Iraq
Thanks for your address to the nation. It's good to know you still want to talk to us after how we behaved in November.
Listen, can I be frank? Sending in 20,000 more troops just ain't gonna do the job. That will only bring the troop level back up to what it was last year. And we were losing the war last year!
We've already had over a million troops serve some time in Iraq since 2003. Another few thousand is simply not enough to find those weapons of mass destruction! Er, I mean... bringing those responsible for 9/11 to justice! Um, scratch that. Try this -- BRING DEMOCRACY TO THE MIDDLE EAST! YES!!!...

Bush Says Failure in Iraq Would Be Disaster for U.S.
But victory in Iraq will bring something new in the Arab world — a functioning democracy that polices its territory, upholds the rule of law, respects fundamental human liberties and answers to its people. A democratic Iraq will not be perfect. But it will be a country that fights terrorists instead of harboring them — and it will help bring a future of peace and security for our children and grandchildren," he said.
Bush said now is the time for a change in strategy because "failure in Iraq would be a disaster for the United States." He said his new course would help the United States succeed after a "stunning achievement" in 2005 that brought a new democratic government into power after 12 million Iraqis went to the polls.

WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW?
OUR  MEDIA WOULDN'T TELL US!
Instead of reflecting our love for our country, we get photos of flag burning incidents at Abu Ghraib and people throwing snowballs at the presidential motorcades.  Tragically, the lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves two purposes:

It is intended to undermine the world's perception of the United States thus minimizing consequent support,
and it is intended to discourage American citizens.

Abrupt Iraq US Withdrawal Would Be 'Utterly Disastrous'
An abrupt withdrawal of American troops from Iraq would be a "disaster for Iraqis and for the region," according to Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Barham Salih.
In a one-on-one interview with Cybercast News Service in his Baghdad offices Sunday, Salih - a prominent Kurdish politician - touched on the outcome of the U.S. midterm elections, negative U.S. media coverage of Iraq, and calls for the country to be partitioned into Shi'a, Sunni and Kurdish regions.
"Iraqis want to assume the lead in the defense of the security of the country," Salih said. "This is something that should be celebrated. But I think we will need American military support for some time to come."

Ambush in Iraq - a good ending though!!
I can not believe what I am hearing. The screaming over the radio is horrifying. Something, somewhere, is seriously wrong. At the first sound, all movement in our Command Post stops. My eyes are riveted on the green radios sitting on the top of the old wooden desk. A quick glance around the room tells me that every other soldier is frozen in place.
The radio static is heavy, the voice making the transmission frantic. I can barely make out a few words: "This is Titan 5...an RPG...ambush...casualties...grid coordinate...UX 2468 7531..." It is enough. Jumping to my feet I run over to the map against the wall. I quickly pinpoint the coordinates that I have just heard through the static and the gunshots. The location is a straight shot west, about six kilometers. Not far.

Back To Iraq
The midterm congressional elections have given the Democrats control of the U.S. House of Representatives. It is possible -- as of this writing, on Wednesday afternoon -- that the Senate could also go to the Democrats, depending on the outcome of one extremely close race in Virginia. However it finally turns out, it is quite certain that this midterm was a national election, in the sense that the dominant issue was not a matter of the local concerns in congressional districts, but the question of U.S. policy in Iraq. What is clear is that the U.S. electorate has shifted away from supporting the Bush administration's conduct of the war. What is not clear at all is what they have shifted toward. It is impossible to discern any consensus in the country as to what ought to be done.

Death never ‘in vain'
Policy decisions can't tarnish a soldier's ultimate sacrifice. This act of faith for American ideals is what matters and should be revered, whatever the war and no matter the outcome.
President Bush wants to stay the course in Iraq so that those who have died there will not have died “in vain.” Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan urges us to pull out immediately to prevent more Americans from dying in vain.
Bush and Sheehan have both got it wrong. Too many partisans in the battle for Iraq policy have used soldiers' deaths as a football in a bid to score points. It's cruel (imagine being a family member and being told the death of your loved one was in vain), but even more, it's just wrong. Those who argue that a soldier's death has meaning only if the politics are “right” misunderstand military service in America.

Dems Push Anti-War Resolution, Stall Alternatives
As the U.S. House of Representatives begins debate on a non-binding resolution criticizing President Bush's troop "surge" policy for Iraq, some lawmakers are frustrated that the Congress is not considering bills that offer alternative approaches to the conflict.
The House Rules Committee on Monday night issued a special order allowing for debate of a resolution submitted by Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) that would express the House's disapproval of Bush's plan to send an additional 21,500 soldiers to Iraq. The resolution is non-binding and if passed would have only a symbolic effect.
While Skelton's resolution is being fast-tracked through the legislative process -- the special order allowed it to avoid the normal committee procedure -- other resolutions that offer alternative plans are being shelved, including one introduced in January by Virginia Republican Frank Wolf....

Down on the war Poll: More troops unhappy with Bush’s course in Iraq
Even so, it is perhaps the most representative independent sample possible because of the inherent challenges in polling service members, according to polling experts and military sociologists. The American military — once a staunch supporter of President Bush and the Iraq war — has grown increasingly pessimistic about chances for victory. For the first time, more troops disapprove of the president’s handling of the war than approve of it. Barely one-third of service members approve of the way the president is handling the war, according to the 2006 Military Times Poll.
When the military was feeling most optimistic about the war — in 2004 — 83 percent of poll respondents thought success in Iraq was likely. This year, that number has shrunk to 50 percent. Only 35 percent of the military members polled this year said they approve of the way Bush is handling the war, while 42 percent said they disapproved. The president’s approval rating among the military is only slightly higher than for the population as a whole.

President Clinton Speech on Iraq and WMDs 12-16-98
Earlier today, I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces. Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors.
Their purpose is to protect the national interest of the United States, and indeed the interests of people throughout the Middle East and around the world.
Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons.

What Did The Democrats Say About Iraq's WMD?
"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."

Iran's Iraq Meddling - Hanging Tough against Weasels
THERE'S a new myth being pumped by the anti-Bush crowd, that somehow the president is once again "hyping" intelligence to make the case for war.
This time it's Iran and the allegedly hyped intelligence concerns Iran's involvement in Iraq, as well as the administration's interpretation of Iran's motives and intentions.
The anti-Bush crowd is concerned that Bush's new, hard-headed approach to Iranian terrorists operating in Iraq is actually beginning to show results, and it is desperate to sabotage any political benefit the president might derive from this success.
"If the administration believes that any, any use of force against Iran is necessary, the president must come to Congress to seek that authority," Sen. Hil- lary Rodham Clinton huffed on the floor of the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.

Infiltration in the Iraq Translator program - an Intelligence Disaster
In the U.S. Eastern District Court in Brooklyn on Valentine's Day a Muslim and naturalized American citizen with five different aliases - stretching from Mauritania to Morocco to Lebanon - pled guilty to a charge of illegally possessing classified documents and was sentenced to 13 years, according to a report in the New York Sun. A light sentence for committing espionage and passing classified documents to Iraqi Sunni insurgents during one of his two stints in Iraq. Federal prosecutors allege that he did this when deployed at Al Taqqadam Air Base west of Baghdad in March 2004.
The irony is that his military superiors reportedly gave him high marks for his work with an Intelligence unit in Iraq. Little did they know what he really was doing. He was found out when he applied for a security clearance. He even entered the U.S. back in 1989 under false pretenses seeking 'political asylum.'

The information he passed on may have caused the deaths and injuries of hundreds of U.S. troops and thousands of Iraqi civilians in the horrific Najaf battle in 2004. In his Brooklyn apartment on his home computer was evidence that he was an al Qaeda sympathizer. One example cited in a New York Daily News
report was a photo of the second airliner that hit the Twin Towers on 9/11 with the caption " we fly straight to you."
He is a spy who used false documents to become a U.S. citizen, engaged in deep espionage against our government and put our troops in the field at great peril.....

A Web Movie

This is awesome!  Turn on your speakers

You'll have to watch this...  this is unreal, 2.5 miles away, at night and it looks like they are right there.  Heck of a weapon too...

The video was taken from an AC130 Specter gunship two and a half miles away.  The guys in the picture are setting up a roadside bomb and planning to ambush an American convoy which followed a short while after the pictures were taken.  They were setting up for the ambush and were pacing off the distance from the bomb to where the convoy was to pass by.
Turn your sound up.  The level of effort these crews put forth to control the enemy's antics is commendable, and their marksmanship with those electronically controlled 40mm cannons is astounding.

Talking to Iran and Syria - Will It Work and At What Cost?
Iran and Syria are sending signals they are ready to play a larger role in curbing the continuing violence in Iraq. Tehran has invited Iraq and Syria to a summit conference and, at the same time, Iraq and Syria have renewed diplomatic relations after a nearly quarter-century break. Some experts consider the moves positive, while others remain skeptical. But pressure is increasing for the United States to talk to Iran and Syria about Iraq.
U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan told reporters in Geneva this week that Iran and Syria could play a positive role to help stabilize the extremely violent situation in Iraq and has urged them to do so. The United States remains skeptical that either Damascus or Tehran really wants to help and instead the Bush Administration has repeatedly accused both of unhelpful interference and of supporting terrorism and violence.

I know how to fight. Like most American boys – and perhaps a few girls – I learned the very basics of fighting on the playground in elementary school.

Webb to serve on key Iraq-related Senate panels
Hopefully Senator-elect Jim Webb will be in a position to help us out with veterans and military retiree affairs.  He is a Marine Corps combat veteran of the Vietnam war.

Where else can Bush get 21,500 trained soldiers for his 'surge'?
Ever on the search for new groups of loyal Americans to ridicule, the media has once again turned to the Vietnam Veterans and decided to take a poke at us. Nothing succeeds like previous success I suppose is what this nimrod may have been thinking, perhaps he's on a one man mission to see how many individual Americans he can bad mouth group by group and remembered that we have been targeted before. Matters not, all it shows is the ignorance of a man who thinks he's humorous and clever, note that I said HE THINKS...
If he were so funny, he'd be making movies in Hoolywad or doing stand up comedy but ya know what? I don't hear anybody laughing but him.
I give you here: his words....
Apocalypse again -- call up the Vietnam vets

Why Iraq is a Success
The nation and economy known as the new Iraq is succeeding, and those who dispute this are simply lying.

Call it whatever you'd like - a quagmire, a country torn by violence, the next Vietnam, etc. - but it is dishonest to say is that this nation is not a success. Government corruption, uncontrolled militias, and (as the drive-by media likes to remind us) daily attacks using improvised exploding devices - but it is not an economy going under.
Take yourself back to the days following 9.11. Do you remember the near stand still our economy experienced? The airline industry down for days and the markets went into the tank. I can only surmise that similar bumps in our economic stability would be felt if we were seeing radicals crossing the borders from our neighbors (and who knows - they probably are), and decided once here they would blow up policemen, military check-points, and the passing civilians on a daily basis.

Democrats' gloating premature
I wonder if Democrats are getting the slightest bit nervous about the news -- hot off the presses -- that Iraqi security forces are actually taking over primary control of defense operations in Iraq.

The Rumsfeld Stain

The time for the Iraqis to stand up is now
As the Democrats turn themselves into the anti-war party, as popular support for the war continues to sink, as some who initially signed on to the war now heap scorn on the entire Iraqi project, the question of immediate withdrawal must be confronted.
