"Have You Thought About Gun-Lube..?"

January 1st, 2009

Happy New Year, James!

May 2009 be the best year of your life!

I want to share with you a post from our private, members-only forum, and it's all about gun-lube.

The type of lubrication used in firearms is something that is often overlooked by most people- myself included. The more I think about it though, the more sense it makes to make sure that your firearm is properly lubricated.

Now I am no expert on gun lube, but I will say this- whenever I think of lubrication, I think of "wet". Whether it's engine oil, electric motor oil, even most gun-oils- it's all wet. But- I've learned that some of the best gun lubes require that the weapon be wiped dry after applying. Just something to keep in mind!

Now, the forum post that I'm about to share with you references one specific brand of gun-lube, but I want you to know that I am not affiliated with them at all.

I wouldn't mind being affiliated with them, and I'd have no problem sending you this if I were (because, I would only affiliate with them if they were good!)- my reason for telling you this, is because I have never actually tried this brand of gun lube, so I'd hate for you to think I'm personally recommending something that I haven't personally used.

Okay, here's the post by an anonymous USCCA member:

I appreciate this forum. It's been a great information source for this novice. Because of my lack of experience, I have in the past felt there would be no value added by posting my comments. But I've discovered something that may be a help for others, thus the following:

We, meaning my wife and our children, have always used CLP Break Free (Bore Cleaning Solvent, Lubricant, Rust Preventative) for cleaning and lubricating our firearms. Some time back, I remember seeing a video about some of our troops in Iraq calling home to relatives and asking for a product called "Militec-1."

The government issue CLP they were using was attracting dust and sand and they were experiencing a lot of weapon malfunctions / jams because of it. Those who were using the Militec-1 were not experiencing the malfunctions. My son picked up an 8 oz. bottle of the stuff and started using it on his XD-45. He now uses it on all of his firearms.

Earlier this week I thoroughly cleaned my own XD-45 with a gun solvent, completely removing all CLP lubrication. I applied a thin coat of Militec-1 to all surfaces and heated the parts with a hot hair-dryer blow gun. After it had cooled for several minutes, I wiped off the excess. I repeated this process 2 more times. I wiped it completely dry the last time, including the inside of the barrel.

I carry IWB in a Crossbreed Supertuck. Normally there is considerable blue jean lint on my pistol after a couple of days. Nothing now. Yesterday I ran about 150 rounds through it. The powder residue wiped off with a dry paint brush, ...no kidding. There was only a small amount of residue left on the feed ramp, which came off with the scrape of my thumbnail.

I would only caution that you not over-heat a polymer frame if you decide to give it a try.

After reading that post on our forum (this morning), I decided to check out this company's site: "http://www.militec.com/". I was impressed. They donate their product to troops, and they aren't afraid to proclaim their faith. It really does look like a good, solid company.

I think I'm going to order a bottle and try it for myself. I will let you know what I think of it after I've had a chance to use it!

Now, I've been getting a ton of questions about what is actually included in the 2008 Year-End package- so I had a friend of mine make a quick video detailing exactly what's in there!
