(CNSNews.com) - A vote to make Rep. Nancy Pelosi the speaker of the House is a
vote against the Second Amendment, says a gun owners' lobby.
Gun Owners of America is asking its supporters to what they can to prevent a
"committed supporter of gun confiscation" from ascending to the top leadership
post.
"The real vote for killing gun control will occur on January 4, 2007," GOA said
in a news release.
GOA said it is telling each and every House member -- including newly elected
Democrats who supposedly support gun rights -- that it will count a vote for
Pelosi as speaker as an "anti-gun" vote.
GOA describes Pelosi as an "avowed socialist" who has an "F-minus" rating on
Second Amendment issues from Gun Owners of America.
As speaker of the House, Pelosi will determine which bills make it to the House
floor for a vote. GOA warned that bills prohibiting gun confiscation "will never
see the light of day" under Pelosi's leadership.
"This vote will be especially tough for some of the newly elected, so-called
Blue Dog Democrats who campaigned as pro-gun before the recent election. But
that's okay. Let's find out how pro-gun these new congressmen really are," GOA
said.
The group is offering an online petition that reads in part: "As a supporter of
the Second Amendment, I am asking you to vote for a gun rights supporter in
early January, when you cast your ballot for the Speaker of the House. And just
to be clear, Rep. Nancy Pelosi is not a supporter of the Second Amendment."
